We have seen a 26% increase in the number of ex-Service personnel seeking help for mental ill-health and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) over the last year. This increase is mainly accounted for by a marked rise in those who served in Iraq and Afghanistan seeking help.

Lee Rigby memorial unveiling

The touching tribute of a bronze drum and a plaque went on display this afternoon in Middleton, Greater Manchester, to mark the “ultimate sacrifice” of Fusilier Rigby.

His four-year-old son, Jack, and widow, Rebecca, were among those who attended the dedication service at Middleton Memorial Gardens.

Together, the pair laid a floral tribute with a message reading: “Me and Mummy Miss and Love You lots and lots. Jack xxx.”

Britain will send two troop-carrying Chinook helicopters and new surface-to-air missile system to the Falkland Islands, amid fears Russia could be arming the Argentine government.

Michael Fallon, the Defence Secretary, said the Islands will be ready to repel “any potential threat” following reports that the Kremlin is preparing to lease 12 Su-24 long range bombers to Buenos Aires in exchange for beef and wheat.

It came as Russia questioned the legitimacy of Britain’s claim on the Islands.
